7 tips on how to have a more organized life
There are so many ways to make this year your best year ever. This is not only a list of New Year’s resolution ideas but ideas for how to be more organized in any year, at any time. How to have a more organized life should be part of a New Year’s resolution list anyway, because everything else starts from there!
Make 2019 your best year ever
Whether you want to be more organized, get healthy or just have a better year. Here are 7 ways to make 2018 your best year ever.
1. Start with a (Big) Plan
If you’re trying to figure out how to be more organized, you aren’t alone! Learning how to have a more organized life is one of the most common goals or new years resolutions, especially for entrepreneurs. I was recently given the opportunity to try the Slay your Goals planner, and I love it! There is something about writing down your goals that makes them more real, and more achievable!
I love this particular planner because it’s centered around goal setting.

2. Plan your days for Maximum Productivity
I love the idea of writing down your goals every day. I use my Day Tracker every single day, and it keeps me on top of things. It’s one simple sheet, has a to-do list, goals for the day, as well as little things like a water tracker and shopping list. You can get a free copy of my printable below.
3. Organize your Meals
When trying to figure out how to have a more organized life, organizing meals is critical. If you aren’t meal planning, you’re waste time and money! I am going to be perfectly honest, I am not that great at meal planning! If you’re like me, you may benefit from a meal planning service. There are lots of options out there, but $5 meal plan is one of the most affordable. eMeals is another good option that caters to many eating styles (vegan, gluten-free etc.)

4. Start Reading
I made the goal in 2017 to read 50 books. I slacked off a lot in the beginning of the year but ended up pulling it together and coming very close to my goal. Reading more is one of the best new years resolution ideas, because who doesn’t benefit from reading more?
Back in August, I did a 30 day trial for Kindle Unlimited and I was hooked. If you know anything about me, you probably know that I’m not a fan of subscription services. This is one that is so worth the money for me. I’ve read lots of business, blogging and self-help books, along with the entire Harry Potter series and a few other fiction options.
If you have access to a great library, this can be another way to read more books for free. Joining the library is also a great way to get kids reading, which is important at any time of the year.
5. Start an exercise program and stick to it
Even if you hate exercise, don’t skip over this one! There are other benefits from exercise besides the obvious physical benefits. Exercise is great for mental health too! Find a form of exercise that you don’t hate.
You don’t even have to leave your house. Some of my favorite exercise “classes” can be found on YouTube. I’ve been following Blogilates for years, and her YouTube videos are fun and so positive.
Another form of exercise that I love is using resistance bands. If you can’t make it to the gym and don’t want to buy dumbbells, resistance bands are the way to go. They’re cheap, portable, and easy to use. I bought this set over a year ago, and I absolutely love it. It’s cheap, perfect for working out at home or taking on the road. It comes with handles and ankle straps, so you aren’t limited like you would be with traditional resistance bands.
Do you have a FitBit? You can actually make money just be using it! No, you won’t get rich quickly, but it’s very motivating to get exercise when you’re earning rewards. I’ve been part of Achievement for quite some time now, and I’ve earned a bunch of $10 rewards.
6. Try something new
Trying to figure out how to have a better year? Try something new. You never know, you could find a new hobby that you love! You could make a goal to try something new every month, wouldn’t it be fun to try 12 brand new things this year?
7. Make small changes
Don’t make a “resolution” to make one giant change. That is a disaster waiting to happen. 80% of New Years Resolutions don’t last past February. If you want to know how to have a better year, start small! Try smaller changes on a daily basis. Once something is a habit, add another one. Here are a few small changes that you can make if you haven’t already, and eventually add more over time.
- Make your bed first thing in the morning
- Put things away immediately after using them
- Start using a planner
- Use a to-do list every day (like mine!)
- Allot a small amount of time each day for chores
- Teach your kids to be more responsible
If one of your goals is being more fit, don’t make a starting goal of working out 5-6 times a week for an hour. It might happen, but it probably won’t. Commit to exercising 10 minutes a day for a week. Once you have done that, increase the time. Start small and work your way toward a bigger goal.
